Visitor support inbox
Receive questions from your board's Contact page, reply by email, and manage conversations with your team.
A
JThe visitor support Inbox lets people contact your board team without signing in. Their message creates a conversation for operators in /home; your reply reaches the visitor by email, and their email reply returns to the same thread.
Availability
- Plan: All plans. A public board is available from Starter upward.
- Setting: Settings → Features → Inbox and contact form. On by default.
- Setup required: None for the default sender and Contact form. An existing support address needs forwarding at your email provider; a custom sender needs a verified email domain.
If your published board uses an older theme without the Contact page, update and republish that theme to make the page available to visitors.
Receive and answer a question
- A visitor opens your board's Contact page, enters their name, email, and message, then sends it. The page confirms which email address will receive your reply.
- Cavuno emails active board owners about a new conversation with a link to that thread. Open Inbox in
/hometo see it. - Open the conversation, assign it to a teammate if needed, and reply. Sending a reply assigns the conversation to you. Use a private note for information that should not go to the visitor.
- Close a finished conversation or snooze it until later. An incoming reply returns to its thread and reopens the conversation.
You can paste or attach images in a reply and open message images in the gallery. After sending, Undo is briefly available. Visitors get a normal email reply from your board's sender, while the operator notification is branded as Cavuno.
Choose the sender
In Settings → Email, Sender name follows your board name and Sender email starts as a stable board-<ID>@mail.cavuno.app address. Changing your board name changes the displayed sender name; changing its slug does not change the address. Job alerts and other board emails use the same sender. Add and verify a custom email domain there if you want your own sender details.
With a verified custom sender, outgoing replies initially use a Cavuno address for incoming responses. Select Set up branded replies on the Email page to create reply@inbound.<your sender domain>, add the separate MX record shown there, and check DNS. Cavuno keeps the existing reply route active until the MX record verifies; new replies then use the branded address. Leave any MX records on your sending domain itself unchanged.
Bring an existing support address into Inbox
In Settings → Email, select Connect it to your Inbox, enter your existing support address, and copy the forwarding address Cavuno supplies. Set up automatic forwarding from your support address at its email provider. Send a test email to that support address and confirm it appears in Inbox. Forwarding affects incoming mail only; replies still use the sender shown in Email settings.
Turn Inbox off
In Settings → Features, turn off Inbox and contact form. The Contact page and Inbox navigation disappear, direct Inbox links become unavailable, and new Contact submissions are rejected. Conversations are kept and return when you turn the feature back on.
If an existing support address is connected, first stop automatic forwarding at your email provider, then disconnect that address in Settings → Email. If branded replies are connected, remove their MX record and disconnect them there too. The switch is blocked until both receiving routes are disconnected, so external mail cannot arrive in a hidden Inbox. The Email settings page remains available for job alerts and other board email.
Limits
- Visitors receive replies by email. They cannot view earlier support threads on the board in this release.
- Forwarding must be configured or stopped at your email provider; Cavuno cannot change that provider's forwarding rule for you.
