Team Roles and Permissions

Understand team roles and set the right permissions for each team member.

What are team roles?

Team roles define what each member can access and change on your job board. Assigning the right role ensures people have the permissions they need without exposing sensitive settings like billing or team management.

Cavuno offers three roles: Owner, Admin, and Member.

Prerequisites

You need Owner or Admin access to manage membership. Only the primary Owner can transfer primary ownership, and the recipient must already be a member.

Available roles

Owner

Full access to everything:

  • All board settings
  • Billing and payments
  • Team management
  • Integrations
  • Delete the board

The account creator is automatically the primary owner and cannot be removed.

Admin

Full management access, including jobs, companies, settings, billing, integrations, and team membership. Admins cannot replace the primary owner unless ownership is transferred to them.

Member

Read-only team access by default. Members do not receive write permissions for jobs, companies, settings, billing, integrations, or team management.

Change a member's role

  1. Go to Settings → Members.
  2. Find the team member.
  3. Click on their current role.
  4. Select a new role.
  5. Changes apply immediately.

Transfer ownership

To make someone else the primary owner:

  1. Go to Settings → Members.
  2. Find the member.
  3. Click the three-dot menu (...).
  4. Select Transfer Ownership.
  5. Confirm the transfer.

The previous owner becomes an Admin after the transfer.

Best practices

  • Limit owners: Only give owner access to trusted team members.
  • Use appropriate roles: Don't give more access than needed.
  • Regular review: Check team access periodically.
  • Remove promptly: Remove access when someone leaves.

Verify access

After changing a role, ask the person to reload the dashboard. Confirm an Admin can reach the intended management settings and a Member can view the workspace without write controls. After transferring ownership, verify the new primary owner is shown as Owner and the previous owner is shown as Admin before making further membership changes.

If the expected action is unavailable

Confirm your own role and the target member's current status. An invitation must be accepted before its recipient can receive ownership, and a Member cannot change roles. If access looks stale after a change, reload the dashboard before retrying.

Troubleshoot missing controls

If a role action does not appear, confirm you are an Owner or Admin and the target has accepted their invitation. Primary-ownership transfer appears only to the current primary Owner.

Next steps

Use Invite team members for new collaborators. Revisit the permission table whenever responsibilities change, especially before giving billing or membership access.
