How to use featured job listings

Highlight job listings on your board to increase visibility and create a premium product for employers.

AJ
By Abi Tyas Tunggal and Jack Walsh

Feature job listings to give them priority placement and visual emphasis on your board. Featured jobs are one of the most effective ways to monetize a job board because employers pay a premium for increased visibility.

How featured jobs display

Featured jobs differ from standard listings in three ways:

  • Visual treatment: a highlighted background, accent border, and "Featured" badge replace the standard posting date
  • Sort priority: featured jobs appear above all non-featured jobs in the job feed, regardless of when they were posted
  • Search ranking: featured jobs receive a score boost in keyword and semantic search, so they surface first even when job seekers apply filters

This makes featured listings the first thing job seekers see when browsing or searching your board.

Feature a job manually

  1. Go to Jobs in the sidebar
  2. Click the job you want to feature
  3. Check the Featured job checkbox at the bottom of the form
  4. Click Save

The job immediately moves to the top of the feed with featured styling. To remove featured status, uncheck the same checkbox and save.

Add featured slots to a pricing plan

To let employers purchase featured listings, configure featured slots on a pricing plan.

Prerequisites

  • A connected Stripe account (see Stripe setup)

Configure the plan

  1. Go to Board settings > Monetization
  2. In the Pricing plans section, click Create plan (or edit an existing plan)
  3. Under plan features, configure the featured settings:
SettingDescription
Featured jobs (toggle or count)For one-time plans, toggle on or off. For bundles and subscriptions, set the number of featured slots included.
Feature selection modeAutomatic: jobs are featured on submission as long as slots are available. Manual: employers choose which jobs to feature.
  1. Save the plan

Plan type examples

Single featured post. Create a one-time plan with featuring toggled on. Each purchase gives the employer one featured listing that is automatically featured on submission.

Bundle with featured slots. Create a bundle plan with 5 active job slots and 5 featured slots in automatic mode. Every job the employer posts is automatically featured.

Subscription with auto-featuring. Create a subscription plan with featured slots equal to active slots in automatic mode. Every job posted under the subscription is automatically featured. Featured slots free up when jobs expire.

How employers interact with featured jobs

The employer experience depends on the plan type and selection mode.

Automatic mode. Jobs are featured on submission. No action required from the employer. If all featured slots are in use, the job is posted as a standard listing.

Manual mode. When an employer with an active subscription posts a job, a "Featured job" checkbox appears in the submission form showing remaining slots. If no slots remain, the checkbox is disabled.

One-time plans. When a single-post plan includes featuring, the job is automatically featured on submission.

Pricing strategies

How you price featured listings depends on your niche and volume:

StrategyWhen to use
Fixed premium (e.g., $99 standard, $249 featured)Simple, predictable. Works well for boards with steady posting volume.
2-3x uplift (e.g., 2x the standard price)Scales with your base pricing as you grow.
Featured as the only paid optionFree standard listings, paid featured. Low barrier to fill the board, monetize through upgrades.

Best practices

  • Set featured slots equal to active slots. The simplest setup: every job on a paid plan is featured. Featured listings stand out against free or backfilled jobs, which is where the differentiation matters.
  • Price at a 2-3x premium. Featured listings deliver measurably more visibility. Most niche boards charge 2-3x the standard listing price.
  • Use automatic mode. Auto-featuring removes friction for employers. Manual mode is available if you want employers to choose, but automatic works best for most boards.
  • Track conversion. Compare application rates on featured vs. standard listings to demonstrate ROI to employers.

Frequently asked questions

Featured jobs display a 'Featured' badge and a highlighted background color that distinguishes them from standard listings. They also sort above non-featured jobs in the feed, giving them more visibility to job seekers.

Yes. Create a pricing plan that includes featured slots. In automatic mode, jobs are featured on submission. In manual mode, employers with subscriptions choose which jobs to feature during the posting flow.

Yes. Open any job in the dashboard, toggle the Featured switch on, and save. This is useful for partnerships, sponsors, or jobs you want to promote yourself.

Each pricing plan defines a number of featured slots. For subscriptions, slots free up when a featured job expires. For one-time and bundle plans, used slots are consumed permanently. Board admins can also manually feature any job without using plan slots.
