How to Connect a Custom Domain

Use your own domain name for your job board instead of the default subdomain.

Give your job board a professional look by using your own domain name like jobs.yourcompany.com or yourjobboard.com.

Before you begin

You'll need:

  • A domain name you own (purchase from Namecheap, GoDaddy, Cloudflare, or any registrar)
  • Access to your domain's DNS settings

Step 1: Add your domain in Cavuno

  1. Go to Board settings in the sidebar, then click the Domains tab
  2. Click Connect existing domain
  3. Enter your domain name (e.g., jobs.yourcompany.com or yourjobboard.com)
  4. Click Add

Cavuno will display the DNS records you need to configure.

Step 2: Configure DNS records

Add these DNS records at your domain registrar:

For a subdomain (e.g., jobs.yourcompany.com)

Add a CNAME record:

  • Host/Name: jobs (or your chosen subdomain)
  • Value/Target: The value shown in your Cavuno dashboard
  • TTL: 3600 (or Auto)

For a root domain (e.g., yourjobboard.com)

Add an A record:

  • Host/Name: @ (represents the root domain)
  • Value/Target: The IP address shown in your Cavuno dashboard
  • TTL: 3600 (or Auto)

Step 3: Verify your domain

  1. Return to Board settings > Domains tab
  2. Click Verify next to your domain
  3. Wait for verification (usually takes 1-10 minutes, but can take up to 48 hours for DNS propagation)

Once verified, your domain will show a green checkmark.

Step 4: Set as primary domain

If you have multiple domains:

  1. Go to Board settings > Domains tab
  2. Find the domain you want as primary
  3. Click the three-dot menu and select Set as Primary

Your primary domain is used in job links, emails, and canonical URLs.

Troubleshooting

Domain shows "Pending" for a long time

DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate. If it's been longer:

  1. Double-check your DNS records match exactly what Cavuno shows
  2. Clear your browser cache and try again

  • Use a tool like dnschecker.org to verify your records
  • SSL certificate errors

Cavuno automatically provisions SSL certificates. If you see certificate errors:

    1. Wait 10-15 minutes after domain verification
    2. Clear your browser cache
    3. Try accessing your domain in an incognito window
