Companion permissions
Choose which changes Cavuno Companion may make for you without asking, and set limits for your team's members.
A
JCavuno Companion makes changes to your board with your own access: it can only read and change what your role allows in the dashboard. Within that, you decide which changes it makes without asking, and Owners and Admins can set limits for members.
Your own permissions
Go to Settings → Companion. The Companion permissions card lists the changes Companion can make, grouped by what they change, such as jobs or companies. For each action, choose:
| Choice | What Companion does |
|---|---|
| Always allow | Makes the change without a card when you ask for it in the dashboard chat |
| Ask first | Shows a card so you can approve or deny each change. This is the default |
| Never | Does not make this change for you, and tells you it is turned off |
Each group also has a setting that changes every action in it at once. Choosing Always allow on a card in the chat sets the same choice here.
Only you set your own choices. They apply to changes Companion makes for you, not for other members.
What always asks
Some changes always show a card and cannot be set to Always allow:
- Deletes, and other changes that cannot be reversed, such as rejecting an employer's claim. Deleting more than one record asks you to type how many.
- Security and outside access: members, roles and invitations, sign-in methods, SSO and password protection, domains, webhooks, API keys and OAuth credentials, and connecting or disconnecting third-party accounts.
- Billing: billing, plans, prices, coupons and invoices. These give you a checkout, billing portal or invoice link to complete yourself; Companion never charges you directly.
Companion does not upload files or run imports. It points you to the right page in the dashboard instead.
How Always allow is checked
Always allow applies only when your own latest message in the dashboard chat asked for the change. Before a change applies without a card, Cavuno checks that your messages asked for it; if it cannot tell, Companion shows the card. An Undo you click yourself needs no check.
Limits for members
Owners and Admins can set the most a member may choose for each action:
| Limit | What the member can choose |
|---|---|
| Always allow OK | Any choice. This is the default, meaning no limit |
| Ask first at most | Ask first or Never |
| Never | Only Never. Companion does not make this change for them |
For every member: the Limits for members card on Settings → Companion sets the board-wide default for each action. Only Owners and Admins see it.
For one member:
- Go to Settings → Members.
- Open the ⋮ menu on the member's row and choose Companion permissions.
- Set a limit per action or per group, then save. Each row shows Board default or Own limit. To go back to the board-wide default, open the row's ⋮ menu and choose Reset to board default.
A member's own limit overrides the board-wide default. Members choose within their limit: a limited action shows a lock and Set by your admin, and the choices above the limit are turned off. If you lower a limit, the member's own choice is kept but capped; raise it again and their choice comes back.
Owners and Admins are never limited, so limits apply to Editors. Nobody can turn on Always allow for another member.
Review what Companion changed
Changes Companion makes appear in the audit log as made by the member "(via Companion)". The detail shows how the change was approved and links to the conversation.
