Registration Wall

The registration wall prompts a signed-out job seeker to create an account before applying. When it is on, clicking Apply opens a sign-up dialog instead of going straight to the application. A candidate record is created only if the visitor completes sign-up or sign-in.

Prerequisites

Candidate profiles must be enabled, and you need a published job with a working native or external application path for testing. The registration wall is on by default for new boards.

How it works

Without the wall, pressing Apply goes straight to the application: the employer's external URL opens in a new tab, or the native apply form appears on your board.

With the wall on, a signed-out visitor who presses Apply sees a sign-up dialog (with an option to sign in). After they create an account or sign in, they continue to the application: for external-apply jobs the employer's page opens, and for native applications they submit on your board. If they complete authentication, the visitor is now in your candidate database. The wall applies to both the desktop and mobile apply buttons.

Apply-click tracking shifts with the wall. With the wall on, a signed-out visitor's first press opens the sign-up prompt and is not counted; the click is recorded once they sign in and continue. With the wall off, or for a candidate who is already signed in, the click is counted on the press.

Turn it on

The registration wall is on by default on new boards. To turn it on or off:

1. Go to Settings in your dashboard sidebar.
2. Open the Features tab and make sure Candidate profiles is on.
3. The Registration wall toggle appears below it. Toggle it on (or off).

The setting saves instantly. Because the wall depends on candidate accounts, the toggle only appears when candidate profiles are enabled, and turning candidate profiles off also turns the wall off.

When to use it

Keep the wall on when identifying candidates at apply time is worth the added authentication step. Consider testing it off when minimizing apply friction matters more than creating an account, then compare completed sign-ups and continued applications rather than relying on the Apply press alone.

Availability

• Plan: All paid plans. The registration wall is available on every paid plan.
• Setting: Settings, then Features, then "Registration wall." The toggle sits under "Candidate profiles" and appears only when candidate profiles are enabled, since the wall depends on candidate accounts. It is on by default on new boards.
• Setup required: Candidate profiles must be enabled. Turning candidate profiles off also turns the registration wall off.

Limitations

• The wall is a prompt, not a security control. For external-apply jobs it cannot prevent a determined user from reaching the employer's URL. It does require sign-in to submit a native application.
• It gates the apply action only. Browsing, search, and job descriptions remain publicly accessible; search engines still decide how those pages are crawled and ranked.

Verify the wall

Open a published job in a signed-out private window and press Apply. Confirm the sign-up dialog opens and the external destination or native application does not continue until you authenticate. Then sign in and continue, confirming the application path works and the apply click is recorded only at continuation. Repeat with the wall off to verify Apply proceeds directly.

Example

For an external-apply job, a signed-out visitor presses Apply, authenticates, then continues to the employer's ATS. For a native-apply job, the authenticated candidate remains on your board and submits the application there.

If the wall does not appear

Confirm Candidate profiles and Registration wall are both enabled, then retest while signed out in a private window. If authentication succeeds but Apply does not continue, check the job's application method and destination before changing the wall setting.
