Move your board to a new domain

Switch your board to a new custom domain and permanently redirect the old one, including every job URL.

You can move your board from one custom domain to another, for example from oldboard.com to newboard.com, without breaking existing links. Once the new domain is your primary domain, Cavuno permanently redirects the old domain to it, on both the root domain and www, for every URL including job pages.

Connect the new domain

  1. Go to Settings in the sidebar and click the Domains tab
  2. Click Connect domain and add the new domain
  3. Add the DNS records shown in the Manage dialog at your DNS provider
  4. Click Refresh status until the new domain shows Active

The full steps are in Connect a custom domain.

Set the new domain as primary

  1. Open the three-dot menu next to the new domain
  2. Click Set as primary

From then on, every other active domain on your board permanently redirects to the primary domain. A visit to https://oldboard.com/companies/acme/jobs/designer?ref=newsletter lands on https://newboard.com/companies/acme/jobs/designer?ref=newsletter. The change takes a few minutes to apply.

Keep the old domain connected

Leave the old domain in Settings → Domains and keep its DNS records pointing at Cavuno, for both the root domain and www. Cavuno keeps issuing the old domain's SSL certificate and redirects every page on it.

Do not also set up a redirect for the old domain at your registrar or hosting provider. A registrar redirect takes over the old domain's DNS, so requests never reach Cavuno. The old domain then loses its SSL certificate, visitors see a certificate error before any redirect happens, and the domain shows a Mismatch status in Cavuno.

If you remove the old domain from Cavuno, it stops redirecting.

Update Google Search Console

Tell Google the board has moved so it transfers search results to the new domain:

  1. Add and verify the new domain in Google Search Console. See Connect Google Search Console
  2. In the Search Console property for the old domain, open Settings → Change of address and select the new domain's property

Google needs the old domain's redirects to keep working while it processes the move, which is another reason to keep the old domain connected in Cavuno.

Update sign-in apps

If you use your own credentials for Google sign-in or LinkedIn sign-in, add the callback URL for the new primary domain to the app's authorized redirect URLs. Sign-in runs on your primary domain, so candidates cannot sign in with those providers until the app accepts the new domain.

Troubleshooting

The old domain shows Mismatch: One of its DNS records points somewhere other than Cavuno, often because of a registrar redirect or URL forwarding rule. Remove that rule and set the records back to the values shown in the old domain's Manage dialog.

The old domain shows an SSL error: Its DNS does not point to Cavuno, so Cavuno cannot issue a certificate for it. Point the root domain and www records back at Cavuno as shown in the Manage dialog, then click Refresh status.

The old domain still shows the board instead of redirecting: Check that the new domain is Active and marked Primary. Cavuno only redirects to an active primary domain. On a board built with the AI website builder, the redirect also waits until the new domain serves your published site. If all of this is true, wait a few minutes and try again in a private browsing window.
