Apply Country Gating

Accept applications only from candidates in each job's eligible countries, while anyone can still browse your board.

Apply country gating lets you accept applications only from candidates who are in a job's eligible countries. It helps when a board gets applications from people who can't take the role, such as candidates outside the country of an on-site job or outside the countries a remote job hires in.

Visitors can still browse your board, search, and read every job. The check happens only when a candidate applies.

Before you begin

Apply country gating works on boards built with the AI website builder on the current starter.

The countries come from each job's work arrangement, so set them before you turn the gate on:

  • On-site and hybrid jobs: set the office location. Candidates in the office country can apply.
  • Remote jobs: set Work authorization to the countries or regions you hire in, or choose Worldwide to accept applicants from anywhere.

A job without countries for its work arrangement keeps accepting applications from everyone. See Create a job posting for where to set these fields.

Turn on apply country gating

  1. Go to Settings → Features
  2. Find Apply country gating
  3. Choose All jobs

The setting saves straight away. To go back, choose Sponsored jobs only. Sponsored jobs are always country-gated, whichever option you choose.

How candidates are checked

When a candidate applies, Cavuno compares their country with the job's countries:

  • Connection country: where the candidate's internet connection comes from.
  • Profile country: the country on a signed-in candidate's profile, if they've set one.

If either one is outside the job's countries, the application is not accepted. On a job that applies on the employer's site, the candidate sees "The employer has not made this job available in your location." instead of being sent to the employer. If Cavuno can't tell where a candidate is connecting from, it uses their profile country alone, except on Sponsored jobs, which then don't accept the application.

Use it with the registration wall

Applications on your board are country-checked for signed-in candidates. Keep Job seeker profiles and the registration wall on so that every candidate signs in before applying. Both are on by default for new boards.

Verify apply country gating

  1. Pick a published job with an office location or Work authorization countries set.
  2. Sign in to your board as a test candidate whose profile country is outside those countries, or connect through a VPN outside them, and click Apply. Confirm the application is not accepted.
  3. Open a remote job set to Worldwide and confirm the same candidate can apply.

Allow a few minutes after changing the setting for job pages to pick it up.
