Job matches respect commute distance

Candidates pick where they live and how far they will commute. On-site and hybrid job matches stay within that distance, and Open to relocate widens them to the candidate's country.

Job matches now know where a candidate lives. Before, a candidate in Houston could be matched to on-site jobs in other states.

On their profile, a candidate picks their location from suggestions and answers How far are you willing to commute?

  • On-site and hybrid matches stay within that distance of their city or town
  • The distance is in miles in the United States, United Kingdom, Liberia, and Myanmar and kilometres elsewhere, with a default of 25 mi or 50 km
  • Open to relocate widens on-site matches to the candidate's whole country, and to countries they hold a work permit for
  • A candidate who picks a region or country, such as "Texas", is matched on that country
  • Remote jobs are unaffected

The same rules apply to the Job matches page, weekly matching emails, and the API. For custom frontends, PATCH /me/profile accepts locationId (from location search) and commuteRadiusKm, and the profile returns locationPlace, commuteRadiusKm, and commuteRadiusDefaultKm. The SDK adds distance unit and default helpers so your form shows the same field.

Candidates whose location is still free text get commute-based matches once they pick their location from the suggestions. The candidate's country, which is checked against country-limited jobs, is their picked place's country; a separately sent country only applies when there is no picked place.
